Osb 2 or 3 for shed roof.
I ve just about finished my double skin brick shed and i m about to do the roof.
Typically 3 4 18mm for floors and 3 8 9mm for walls and 1 2 11mm roof.
Up here in bonny scotland i ve seen many a roof with osb.
With edge support and the same snow load 3 8 inch osb can be used.
My plan is for a warm roof so i m going to lay the 18mm osb3 then a vapour barrier followed by 100mm celotex insulation boards.
Osb comes in 4 by 8 foot sheets as does plywood but the manufacturing process allows the production of longer and wider ones.
Full membrane will just speed up the rot.
For shed construction there are two commonly used grades of osb.
2 is ok but 3 better you don t say what thickness the floor needs to have air circualtion.
My solution when i built our garage was trusses on 19 3 center the canadian std and 5 8 osb.
Sheets of 7 16 inch thick with no edge support can be used in an area where the snow load is 30 pounds per square foot.
Singletrack issue 132 is out now.
The topic replacement shed roof osb or ply is closed to new replies.
Also make sure that you get your supporting timbers at the correct spacing.
The roof has no waviness sag in it.

My shed is osb with a layer of torch on roof felt been good for 10 years.
Direction of text should run in direction of span.
Typical markings on osb panel.
The thickness of osb that you need varies on where it is used in a building.
Around here southern mn the cities you can drive through the neighborhoods with cheaper houses the ones with trusses on 24 centers and 1 2 or 7 16 sheeting and most many will have sagged roofs.
Thicknesses range from 5 16 to 3 4 inch and the proper.
Typical types of wood used for roof sheathing are oriented strand board known as osb and plywood the most popular being osb.
I m thinking about putting another layer of osb on top of the insulation before i finally lay a single sheet epdm on top.
